Almagest was deployed to their first disaster project “Katrina” in 2005, incorporating our experience and insight, as we worked with the diverse teams from all over the world, results in our ability to provide the most efficient building systems and solutions for our clients.

Our philosophy is to apply technology in ways that enhance our ability to deliver projects faster, more cost effectively and with a greater level of quality.  We use BIM to visualize the work, quantify the scope and schedule the construction activities

Alfreda Nickelson

Chief Executive Officer/ Founder


 Alfreda Nickelson organized Almagest Construction, Inc. in 1976 after graduating from University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) and furthering her education at OSU in Civil Engineering. Nickelson’s first assignment as a General Contractor was in the construction industry for ODOT (Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation) specializing in guardrail, right-away fencing and highway fencing and further her expertise in building roads, bridges, airport runways and infrastructure. As a General Contractor in the 80’s Nickelson became a member of AGC (Associated General Contractors) OKC Chapter, which was unheard of being a minority female in this industry, but she believed in going straight to the top and asking for support which she accomplished.  Nickelson later enter into TXDOT and was awarded the first DART Light rail project for Hensel Phelps, Austin, Texas.  Almagest’s Commercial Building projects included RISD Schools, DISD Schools, FWISD Schools, and Dallas County Community Colleges.

In 1980, ODOT joint ventured with USDOT/FAA to hire Nickelson as a Consultant to recruit minority contractors into the highway industry. Her responsibility was to recruit subcontractors and female contractors into the Transportation industry.

​Almagest Construction, Inc. was established 40 years ago based on the core values of teamwork, integrity and commitment.  Today, The company’s reach is global and our team provide valuable services to clients, in building long-term relationships and developing strategic partnerships globally. 

Alfreda Nickelson grew up in a construction environment, her father believed “if you do the job right the first time, you would not have to repeat your steps”.  As a result of that statement she insist on providing quality service, hard work, and responsiveness to the client’s needs which has led to the company’s success in today’s market.

Almagest have transformed the ways of doing business today, because yesterday is gone and today we face many obstacles, including competition, processing building information modeling, and more complex technology.


​Almagest started in the Transportation Industry building roads, bridges, airport runways and light rail systems.  Almagest became a Federal, State and local government contractor delivering heavy civil projects nation-wide. We have added a new addition which is Heavy Industrial in the Maritime industry.
